Apple dropped Game Porting Toolkit 4.0 alongside macOS 27 at WWDC 2026. The headline features: Metal 4 Neural Engine upscaling (Apple's answer to DLSS), frame generation support, and improved DirectX 12 translation. We tested all of it on the M5 MacBook Air (32GB).
How to Install GPTK 4.0 via CrossOver
The install process is straightforward once you know the steps. Update to macOS 27, grab the latest CrossOver, and GPTK 4.0 is available as a built-in option in your bottle configuration. Full walkthrough with screenshots in the video above starting at 2:59.
Benchmark Results
Marvel Rivals — 30 FPS at all-low settings with DLSS off. Enabling DLSS Frame Generation produced a 60 FPS output, but the underlying render rate was only 16–20 FPS. That distinction matters for input feel.
Spider-Man Remastered — a stable 30 FPS at 1470×956 in the published run. Playable, but the M5 Air is working hard.
Spider-Man 2 — froze during loading, so I do not have a defensible gameplay FPS result for this run.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance — 30 FPS on Low (playable), dropping to roughly 20 FPS on High (rough). This CPU-heavy title pushes the Air's limits.
Dota 2 — both the CrossOver/Windows run and native macOS footage reached about 60 FPS, but under different settings and test conditions. I prefer the Windows client in CrossOver for my setup; the footage does not support a raw 95-vs-80 performance claim.

M5 MacBook Air — FPS by Game (GPTK 4 / CrossOver, macOS 27)
Scale: 60 FPS. Marvel's 60 is frame-generated output from a 16–20 FPS render rate. Dota captures used different settings, and Spider-Man 2 is omitted because it froze before a usable run.
Key Takeaway
GPTK 4 expands what launches and can improve displayed smoothness, but frame generation does not repair a low underlying render rate or input latency. On the M5 Air, the strongest verified results remain lighter games at 60 FPS; heavier Windows titles need low settings and title-by-title caveats.
